OTHER METHODS OF BREAST RECONSTRUCTION

The standards methods of breast reconstruction are with implants, back muscle and tummy tissue. There are other methods of reconstruction using tissue from the buttock or the inner thigh. These are areas where excess tissue can be taken along with their blood supply and then plumbed into the armpit or the vessels running close to the breast bone. The scars are well hidden in the buttock or the groin crease.

These are relatively newer methods and are being used only in few centres in the world.  Using tissue from other sites provides alternatives for breast reconstruction, for those patients who are not appropriate or those favouring these sites for tissue transfer.

The buttock tissue flaps are the SGAP and IGAP flap.

The inner thigh flap is called the TUG flap.
